The golf swing may seem complex but there are really only a few key things you need to keep in mind in order to hit the ball well. The first thing to learn is how to grip the club, there are a few different grip methods that you can try to use. They include the interlocking, overlapping and baseball style grips. For most people it is the interlocking style that may work best. This involves locking the small finger of the right hand with the index finger of the left hand. Keep in mind that the grip is indeed the foundation to the swing so if you need to take a lesson from a local pga professional to learn this well then you should do so.
The Stance:
A good stance will involve having you stand upright so do not slouch, bend at the hips and try to keep your back as straight as possible unless you suffer from back troubles. Your feet should not be too far apart for short clubs such as the wedge and should get wider apart up to shoulder width for the driver. Your weight should be equally balanced on each side and keep your eyes focused on the back of the ball.
It may be best to start the backswing with a shoulder movement and keep the arms and hands passive. The left arm should stay quite straight during the backswing as the right arm folds. Move your weight laterally towards the target on the downswing before bringing the club down from the top of the swing. This will encourage the right swing path and also help you get more club head speed. During the downswing you want to keep your eyes focused on the back of the ball and try to think of yourself pulling the club with the left hand through the hitting zone instead of trying to muscle it with the right hand which can lead to an early release and loss of distance and accuracy. Let the momentum of the swing bring your head up and do not get too eager and come out early as this will result in poor shots.
