Golf Mental Game Tips
Learning how to think effectively on the course can certainly help you to become a better player. Golf is probably one of the most mentally challenging games out there since you are in full control as to how long you take to hit the ball. Most other sports you are forced to react otherwise you either lose the ball or do very poorly. With golf you can choose to take your time and think a lot or just look at the target and let it go. Here are some tips on the mental aspect of the game to help you get better more quickly:
Tip 1: Build a solid routine
The routine is the foundation of consistency in the golf game. There are two sides to the routine and they are the mental and the physical routine. Both are important and support one another. The physical routine can vary and you should allow some flexibility here, for instance if you come across a strange lie or stance then allow yourself to take some extra practice strokes and time to get comfortable before hitting the shot.
The mental routine is important and the key point to remember is not to think too much whether it be positive or negative thoughts. Just allow yourself to look at the targets and react to them. Of course you should take as much time as you need to determine the club selection and shot you want to hit. However once you have done all that and picked your target then simply step up and hit the shot. Do not spend too much time over the ball otherwise you risk letting distractions enter your mind which will probably cause you to hit a poor shot.
Tip 2: Focus on the process not immediate results
It is easy to get caught up in the results of every shot. The problem with this is that golf is a game where you can do things the same but end up getting very different results due to bad bounce or the wind shifting just after you hit the ball. You need to focus on whether or not you executed your routine properly on every shot. If you did then be satisfied regardless of how poor the last shot was. Of course if you are consistently hitting poor shots then you need to analyze quickly what might be causing it and believe in the next shots. Click here to learn more secrets to improving your game.
