Golf Driving Tips
Hitting the driver is one of the best parts of the game of golf and few things are more enjoyable than pounding a monster drive right down the middle of the fairway and leaving your playing partners in shock. Unfortunately, hitting the driver well consistently is one of the toughest things in the game as it requires strong understanding of swing mechanics and a really well grooved golf swing. Here are some golf driving tips to help you learn how to hit this club better:
Tip 1: Use a light grip pressure
Too many players resort to using a tight grip and the problem with this is that it can lead to tight muscles and greater tension in the body and tension usually lead to poor golf swings. A light grip pressure promotes a freer swing that has less tension which should produce straighter and longer shots.
Tip 2: Shift weight properly
Proper weight shift especially in the downswing can really make a difference in helping you to hit the ball farther. At the top of the backswing, make sure you shift your weight slightly to the left before lowering the club with the hands as this will help create more lag and increase club head speed and overall distance.
Tip 3: Get proper equipment
The right equipment can really make a big difference. This is particularly true if you have very high club head speeds are using a driver that has too much loft. You will in this case find yourself popping the ball up a lot or having a trajectory that is too high and ends up costing you up to 50 yards in carry.
If you simply shifted to a 8 or 9 degree driver you would find that your distance and even accuracy will improve dramatically. This applies to players that have club head speeds over 120 mph. If you have a club head speed under this then you will need a regular flex driver with more loft usually over 10 degrees would be ideal for you.
Tip 4: Stand the right distance from the ball
Too many amateurs tend to stand too far from the ball with their hands extended too far out. This promotes a less than optimal swing plane and the contact with the ball is not optimal either resulting in a loss of ball speed. As you take your stance let your arms hang down naturally and grip the club in that position. This usually means a steeper swing plane than before however this kind of swing plane is ideal for optimal contact and maximum club head speed and ball speed as well as launching the ball at the best trajectory for maximum roll and carry.
