Golf Driver Tips To Help You Hit Longer and Straighter Shots

The driver is no doubt one of the most enjoyable clubs to hit and being able to hit it far and straight is one of the best experiences in golf. However the driver is also one of the most difficult clubs to hit and requires solid swing mechanics in order to hit well consistently. If you want to hit the driver long then it is a combination of solid swing mechanics and club head speed. You do not need big muscles to hit the driver fat however if you want to hit it 300 yards then you will at least need strong muscles even if they are small so be sure to train properly and strengthen all the major muscles in your body through weight training.

Leverage is the key:

The biggest hitters know that developing proper leverage or lag is what will allow them to hit their drives further with as little effort as possible. Lag is the angle between the club shaft and the left arm (right handed players) and the idea is to release this angle at the last possible moment so that you get the maximum club head speed through impact and as a result get more distance on your drives. One tip to remember to assist you in getting more leverage is to think of the club as a whip and focus on whipping the club through the hitting zone.

Your legs can also be a great source of power and strength so be sure to do a proper weight shift with your legs laterally towards the target.  There are many ways also to strengthen the legs through weight training by doing exercises like the squat or the leg press. Golf does require a certain level of strength and fitness so learning to strengthen your muscles through resistance training will no doubt make the game a lot easier and you will also be less prone to getting injured. Maintaining good balance is very important for the golf swing so it is fine to swing hard as long as you have good balance throughout the swing.

Another tip that can help you to increase lag is to start the downswing with a shift of weight towards the target while keeping the hands still at the top of the swing, this will load the club and should help to increase club head speed through impact. Keeping the head down throughout the swing is another important tip to keep in mind as this will prevent the dreaded slice shot and coming over the top.
